They frequently have to wait for IT managers to provide them with the resources they need to do their jobs. Resolving the technology-centric problems that matter most to them is not easy, so many of them opt to stay in software developer mode without taking full advantage of their skills to expand into project management.
A recent study shows that many IT managers don’t have the time or the knowledge to transfer these resources to software developers. That’s great. But it also presents a huge opportunity for the software industry.
On a recent note, a colleague of mine, Susan G, was facing a situation of needing more IT resources but not having the budget to hire new people. To mitigate this, she was given a choice: build her own team, or go to an on-demand workforce model.
She chose the latter and found a remote workforce that would help her out. To build her team, she would have to:
define her role in terms of workflows: “What do I need to do?”
“What do I need to do?” hire the resources and onboard them: “Who are the people I need?”
“Who are the people I need?” use a service that matches each remote worker with the right tasks: “How do I find people that are the right match for my role?”
“How do I find people that are the right match for my role?” work with the service to know what projects are available: “How do I sign people up for projects that need them?”
“How do I sign people up for projects that need them?” manage the people and pay them: “How do I reimburse people?”
“How do I reimburse people?” use external reporting tools: “How do I get statistics to figure out which projects need the most people

Surely, this spirit of war in the air doesn’t surprise a lot of us. We feel the same in days like this. We’re surrounded by explosions, death, destruction, misery, and despair. Like I said before, this is not a spirit of war, but rather of death. It’s the spirit of death which took one of his children. It’s his spirit of death which calls his children to war. Jesus is a spirit of death. His war is dying with us. The battle is with us. With the little family I try to live a life of victory in the presence of this spirit. I look at the enemies of God around me and I pray: “Lord, take this spirit of death from me. Give me the victory and help me to fight for your glory.”
